A starving child // Midnight imagination: An inspiring story // by @kingdouglas

Most times, office work and daily activities do counter my imaginations. I find it difficult to write in a day time, reason being that customers always interrupt on the process. As a poet, when I retire to bed after a stressful work day, hundreds of thousands of thoughts and imaginations will flow through my brain. I can't resist, I have to get off my bed, pick my pen & papers and start creating stories for my good friends in STEEMIT world to digest.

"I am haunted by the vivid memories of starving or wounded children"...

THE EMPTY PLATE!

In streets of struggle, where shadows roam, The innocent soul wanders, without a home. Eyes once bright, now dull and grey, Reflect the hunger that gnaws each day. His name is Emeka, just five years old, With a belly empty, his heart grows cold. He searches for crumbs, in every place, But finds only dust, and a hollow space. His skin once smooth, now pale and thin, His laughter silenced, his smile locked within.

His eyes, once full of hope and light, Now dimly shine, like a dying night. He walks alone, through crowded streets, Invisible to those who pass and meet. No gentle hand to guide his way, No loving voice to chase the hunger's Sway. His thoughts are filled with memories of home, of warmth and love, now forever roam. A mother's touch, a father's care, Lost to poverty, and despair's dark snare.

As night descends, and darkness falls, Emeka curls up, with empty calls. His stomach growls, his heart does ache, For a meal, a crumb, a love that won't forsake. But still he dreams, of better days, of full plates, and joyous, playful ways. Of laughter, love, and endless light, That chases away the darkest night. And when he wakes, to another day, He'll search again, for a brighter way. For a chance to learn, to grow, to thrive, And leave the pangs of hunger, far behind. For Emeka's spirit, though worn and weak, Still holds on tight, to a glimmer of hope unique. A hope that someday, somehow, Someway, His plate will be full, and his heart will play.

THE UNEXPECTED TURN!

Emeka's days were filled with the struggle to survive. He would wake up before dawn to help himself, then roam around with his tattered clothes and worn-out shoes a constant reminder of his continuous struggles. Despite the hardships, Emeka's spirit remained unbroken. He was determined to create a better life for himself and his family.

One fateful day, while walking home from hustle, Emeka stumbled upon a community center. The vibrant colours and lively atmosphere drew him in. He cautiously entered, hoping to find something to eat or perhaps some assistance. Inside, he met Mrs. Naomi, a kind-hearted social worker who managed the center.

Mrs. Naomi noticed Emeka's curiosity and approached him. "Hello, young one. What brings you here today?" she asked with a warm smile. Emeka hesitated, unsure how to share his story. But something about Mrs. Naomi's gentle demeanor put him at ease. He poured out his heart, sharing his struggles and dreams. Moved by Emeka's determination, Mrs. Naomi decided to help.

She enrolled him in a scholarship program, providing him with financial support for his education. The community center also offered free meals, clothing, and medical care. As the months passed, Emeka's life transformed. He excelled in school, his confidence growing with each passing day. Mrs. Naomi's help didn't stop there, She connected Emeka with a local entrepreneur, Mr. Okoro, who took the young boy under his wing. Mr. Okoro taught Emeka valuable skills in carpentry and business management.

With newfound skills and education, Emeka's future looked brighter than ever. He started a small carpentry business, earning enough to support his family and even hire others from his community. Years later, Emeka returned to the community center, this time as a successful entrepreneur. He met Mrs. Naomi, his eyes filled with gratitude.

"You saw potential in me when no one else did" he said, his voice trembling. "Your help changed my life." Mrs. Naomi smiled, her eyes shining with tears. "You were always capable, Emeka. I just gave you a chance to shine." Emeka's story spread throughout the village, inspiring others to seek help and never give up on their dreams. The once-poor boy had become a beacon of hope, proof that kindness and support can transform lives.
