I really got pissed when I had to download an audio file on WhatsApp just to listen and find out that it was a recording of the hoax message which has been circulating telling users to 'forward' or risk deactivation of their accounts.

Hoax meaning; a plan to deceive someone, such as telling the police there is a bomb somewhere when there is not one, or a trick.
_Cambridge Advance Learner's Dictionary.

The message is addressed by the supposed CEO of WhatsApp, Jim Balsamic and urges users to forward if not their accounts will be deleted.

I want to advice that it's not advisable for us, in this era where nothing is safe anymore, to forward messages without verifying our sources and also not to forward to just anyone because we think we're helping them. The intentions of those responsible for this hoax message are not certain and could be anything.

It should however be noted that, Facebook purchased WhatsApp in February 2014 and have been in control of the messaging app ever since. If at all a message of this sort is to be sent out, it would probably be addressed by Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Facebook or maybe he would write a post about it in his official Facebook account for everyone to see. And of course he wouldn't use "Half-Baked English" as described by another blogger here.

This message has been in circulation as far back as 2012 with exactly the same words..... 'Tomorrow at 6pm, they are ending WhatsApp and you have to pay to open it.' Getting to almost 10 years ago and users still react to this message because of lack of information.

On January 16th 2012, an article was posted on the WhatsApp blog stating clearly that there's no truth to this message.

Please understand that this is a hoax and there is no truth to it. While we are flattered that we made it to Hoax Slayer, we would rather work on cool new features instead of debunking silly stories like these.

It is rumoured that the message first surfaced when the messaging app stopped working around the world for some time and this event is reoccurring just days after there was also a worldwide crash in the app.

I decided to do this write-up so we can all be aware of what is going on and avoid wasting our time forwarding messages to users.

Hope this makes some sense to someone.

Thank very much for clarifying my doubts. I have received this very voicemail several times just this month but I felt reluctant to forward it because I had doubts about it and i did not know where to get the truth. I greatly appreciate your clarification.

Thanks very much for that . God bless you 🙏

It's better to share helpful info to edify others rather than forwarding messages you don't know the sources.

You're welcome

Hahaha no watsapp at least one will have to go back to those days by using our chirongko phones where we will only text and make our normal calls

😅😅😅 like seriously.... Life will be less stressful

Thank you so much for this very important message.I was as pissed off too when I clicked and open a similar message being forwarded to my phone from several contacts.alot of people in our context do t read and for that reason are miss informed.

Very true. And they also do not verify the sources of information they receive. They just go ahead forwarding.

Some if us really lack information not knowing where we are heading to with our decisions and actions.

God bless you for enlightening us

If you're not informed, then you're deformed. And those who are informed should inform as many people as possible. This is just my own way of informing my fellow steemians.
