Steem Cameroon Contest - International Tea Day ( Nigeria).

As we all know, Tea has always been one of the most oldest word and loved drinks or should I say beverages rather. It has helped to connect a whole lot of cultural boundaries and helps to actually unites people all across the continents. In a bid to appreciate the benefits it offers to the global world, the International Tea Day is always celebrated every blessed year in a bid to actually honour the cultural importance of tea to our society actually.

I will like to briefly share with us what I know about the International Tea day. Well according to my research, I have actually come to discover that international tea day is always celebrated on the May 21st every blessed year and that is followed when it was accepted by the United Nations Assembly in December 2019. One of the major aims that the day helps you to achieve is to help you raise awareness of the cultural significance of the tea all around the world and even in our society.

Not only that also, but it has really helped to actually seek to sustain in favour the consumption and production of tea workers and tea in our society. This helps to make the objectives of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to be achieved..

• Historical Context

In a bid to actually established the little knowledge I know about the international Tea Day, I discovered that the origins of the international tea day is dated back to the efforts of the tea-producing countries and even organisations. In fact the first international Tea day which is celebrated in India was by 2005. Since 2005 till now, it has gained massive significance in various countries that produce tea.

• Objectives

Not only that, there are a whole lot of objectives that the tea aimed to achieve which I will be talking about below.

• This helps to point out the importance of tea in helping out of hunger and even poverty.

• It helps to actually facilitate trades and even the atmosphere for working for the tea workers.

• It also helps to sustain and promote tea production and also the consumption in our society.

• It helps to also encourage and motivate the tea industry to help adopt practices that are friendly.

• The last one is certainly that it also helps to point out the importance of the cultural heritage of tea in our society.

This is my proposed mascot I was able to come up with in representation for the day.

The drawing is pretty. It represents a cup and inside the cup, there lies the tea and the flame is coming out because the tea is still hot. Then down below, it is written below as the international Tea Day.

I have actually come to discover that the international Tea day has really helped to bring out a whole lot of positive benefits in our communities and society which I will be sharing with us below.

• Economic Empowerment

The First benefits I will point out is the economic empowerment. What do I mean by that?. The international tea day has really helps to increase economic empowerment for the small business size of the tea farmers in the society. By celebrating the day, it has helped to improve the market access for the farmers. It has actually helped those small holders of the tea to actually secure better prices and helps to increase the standard of their living financially.

• Social Cohesion and Cultural Appreciation

Earlier I was talking about the cultural appreciation the day has brought to society. The international tea day has really increased a greater appreciation of the tea cultural significance in the society.

• Environmental Sustainability

Not only that but it has also helped to promote what I will say the environmental sustainability. What do I mean by that, by tea production, practices that celebrate the day has make it possible for us to have an increased tea production in the society. They now foster more tea cultivation among the farmers in the society.

• Health and Well-being

The last one I will like to talk about is the health and the well being of citizen in the society. The international tea day has helped to promote the health benefits of tea and this has helped to increase the healthier lifestyle in the society and the community in general.

When we talk about the active promoters in our community, I have been able to pick out three of them actually. They include the International Organisations, the governments, and even the non-government organisations and finally down to the local community groups.

• Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).

I will like to start by the FAO. The FAO actually plays a crucial role in the promotion of the international Tea Day as the organisation always helps to support and even promotes various initiatives that helps to improve the standard of living of tea workers.

• National Governments and Tea Boards.

The second on my list is the National Governments. The government plays a crucial role in national events that they organise as it helps to actually promotes and provide the needed support for the tea farmers. And not only that but also coming up with policies.

• Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs).

The third promotors on my lists are the NGOs. The NGOs help to work in the field of agriculture and help to advocate for the rights of the tea workers.

• Local Community Groups.

The last one on the list I will like to talk about finally are the local community groups. They also help in creating events and even workshops to increase the awareness of the importance of tea in the community.

What Do You Think Can Be Added to Have More Impact on Your Community

Even though the international Tea Day has brought tremendous positive growth in our community, I still believe strongly that there are still aspects we can actually work upon below.

• More Public Awareness Campaigns and Programs can be conducted.

• Provision of More Support for the Small size Tea Farmers.

• The Promotion of the Sustainable Practices.

• Provision for strategies that will aid Market Access.

• Provision of the Health and the Wellness Programs.

As I conclude, I will like to say that International Tea Day has really grown to become a powerful enlightment of the importance of tea both in Cultural heritage and even the health benefits in the society and should not be joked with.
