Hello everyone and welcome to my blog, so on this season 6 and week 12 of the Steem Cameroon Awareness contest, I will be speaking on the "World Maritime Day". Just as we all know the great contribution maritimers have added to the world, it is worthy to commemorate them owing to such great risk they go through just to make sure we have different goods globally using the water routes, so today, I will be talking about them.

What Do You Know About The Day? (28th September)

28th day of September was chosen for the commemoration of Maritimers for their contribution towards humanity by the United Nation (UN) in conjunction with the International Maritime Organization. The Maritime industry has been the core anchor responsible for transporting goods globally through water routes, this day was being set aside for them having seen the level of risk these Maritimers go through just to foster global economy.

The Maritime industry has always been one of the riskiest industry in the world, therefore, they deserve to be celebrated, more of a reason the UN in collaboration with the International Maritime Organization choosed this date for them.

How Do You Or Your Country Or Your Organization Celebrate The Day?

Nigeria being my home country has a special way of commemorating this day, just like last year, the executive board of Maritime Agency including the minister of defence as well as the minister of transportation went on a retreat that lasted for two days, throughout these two days, issues concerning water shipping were being raised and possible solutions were given to some.

Secondly, every founding fathers of the Maritime industry will be awarded with a medal for their immense contribution towards the rise of the industry, farewell songs will be sang to the fallen heroes as well. At the end of the conference, three Ships were being donated to Agip Oil for their contributive effort in onshore oil production. It is always an amazing time to watch our leaders honoring people.

What Impact Does Your Community Gain Durin And After The Commemoration?

Just like lat year's celebration, the minister of transportation was able to compensate the families and owners of land that were affected by the oil exploration. To some, new houses were built for them far from the water bank and to some, cash token were given to them.

Also, during the last Commemoration, scholarships were given to the children of the fallen heroes, this is the part I really loved, because, to be sincere, remembering people who risk their lives everyday onshore just to provide for our needs as well as boosting our economy is just an emotional scene. I commend the immediate past administration for that gesture.

What Issue Or Concern Will You Recommend To Be Commemorated This Week And What Date?

I will recommend 28th of September which is the new yam festival in my Local Government Area (Essien Udim) to be Commemorated as well. This day brings so much joy to the people with the believe that the harvest of yam and other crops will be in abundance as God has poured down his blessings on us.

I want to invite @emily08, @etette and @wirngo to participate in this contest if they are yet to.
