Greetings steemians!
Today I'm going to be sharing my social media experiences and my lessons learnt from them.
I bet everyone on steemit owns a smartphone or a smart device which has social media apps or can access social media websites.
On an average we each spend at least an hour or more on these apps daily. There is no way it has no influence on us.
We learn everyday from this virtual interaction with people known and unknown. On these social media, we get to meet the world and see the different sides of it.

Lessons learnt:

From my experience, social media can build you or break you. You get to meet a million different people with different personalities and perspectives. This global contrast could affect you in several ways;

• It can cause you to change your ways or values in order to adapt to the ways of others. This could be a good thing or bad thing depending on the kind of change(Positive or Negative).
• Your feelings could easily be hurt. There are social media trolls who are always looking for new ways to push someone down. This is true mostly for popular people. Their comments on your posts leaves you doubting if you hurt them or not. So imagine you trying to put yourself or your work out there and you get trolled. Demoralizing right?
• There's some good stuff that happens on social media too. Just as easy as a bad comment can ruin you, so can a good one fix you. You get appreciated, encouraged even when it comes to your works. You make friends and find connections that can take you a long way. I have been able to spread my wings in the field of poetry cause if the good critics and appreciations I got from sharing them on social media..

My take on the issue of social media is;

• Donot let the bad stuff get to you, do not let the good stuff get to you.
  Navigate through the media with your own free will so that you can pick the good stuff and make use of and throw away what won't be beneficial to you.
  Following trends can be good, but let your life not be about the trends if that isn't who you truly are.
  Social media influence can take you a long way to destruction, construction or renovation.
