Greetings, Steem mates. I hope we're all having a fantastic weekend.
I was in the hospital on Wednesday to undergo some tests to determine my health condition. After consultation, I had a 20-minute talk with the doctor, a young and insightful lady who diagnosed me with migraines. After asking a series of questions about my work and lifestyle, she advised that I needed to take some time off and rest, as it appeared I had been stressing a lot. When I complained about persistent headaches that were intensified by light, even from my phone screen, she bluntly stated that I needed to switch off my phone and rest well.
She said she understood how challenging it could be to be at home as a man, knowing full well that bills need to be paid, but she emphasized the importance of prioritizing my health. If my condition worsened, I could be forced to stay home for an extended period. She also asked if I had any children, and when I said yes, she inquired about any changes in their behavior, as that could be another source of stress. I assured her that there hadn't been any major changes in their behavior. She urged me to take my health seriously and use my children as motivation to rest.
When you get tired rest, don't quit.
This meeting with the doctor reminded me of the fact that our loved ones are a great source of support and encouragement, even when the odds are against us. It also taught me the importance of focusing on those who truly care about us, rather than dwelling on those who don't. When we approach life with this mindset, it becomes a more enjoyable and rewarding experience.
Since January 2nd, 2024, I haven't taken any time off from work. I have spoken consecutively for an average of 3 hours a day, 4 days a week. In April alone, I spoke 3 times in Buea, 4 times in Kumba, once in Limbe, and once in Douala, all while not being in the best of health. I've juggled speaking engagements with training at the Texas Institute of Public Speaking for 3 hours in the morning and 2 in the evening. I've also spoken in schools, sometimes even two schools in one day, and often in 2-3 classes within a single school, especially in January, February, and March. Additionally, I've spoken in churches and, as the manager of TIPS, have represented the institution at numerous meetings.
I've done all of this, and I would do it again, because I understand that at the beginning of a career, there's a lot of unpaid work to be done in order to build a solid foundation. Therefore, taking a
brief break now doesn't seem like a bad idea. I pray these few days at home make me feel better 🙏
