Steem greetings everyone! I hope we're all doing well today.
I attended church today
and was deeply blessed by the preacher's sermon about service. The preacher emphasized that just as the Son of God came not to be served but to serve and die for mankind, so are we also supposed to be at the service of one another. The preacher shared the story of Jesus and the Apostles in Mark 9:33-35 where the Apostles had a dispute along the way as to who would be the greatest. Jesus responded that the man who seeks to be the greatest must do so in service to others.
Reflecting on this message, I realized that service is the actual purpose of life. A wise person said, "Service is the rent we pay for our room on earth."
Most parents serve their children from birth to sometimes, their entire lifetime. When many children grow up, they serve their parents. Service is the reason why organizations and companies make money. We are paid at work or in business because we render services.
In our communities today, many men do not fully understand the meaning of servant leadership. That is why many seek power so they can be served rather than to serve, but true power is in service to others. The late Dr. Myles Munroe said, "Leadership is the ability to influence people by inspiration that stems from a passion that is fueled by purpose." In our society today, what we see is the opposite of this definition. Rather than influencing people by inspiration (through service), so-called leaders try to influence people by manipulation. You see that even in marriages, as most husbands and wives are asking to be served rather than to be in service of their spouse. This completely distorts the meaning of submission to one another in marriage.
My encouragement to us all is that we may be strengthened to realize true greatness is only achieved by being in service to one another.
Jesus didn't own land, money, or even a box of clothes, but He is the greatest that ever graced the surface of the earth. That is simply because He spent His entire life here on earth serving. Jesus came to teach us how to live, so it is our prayer that we may emulate Him for a more fulfilling life here on earth.
Amen 🙏
