Hello great steemians, hope you all are in good health and pushing on. Saturday wss a very stressful day, full of cooking activities, sharing and serving.
In the morning hours, i got a taxi to upstation where we gather for work. Before i could reach there, the price to take a taxi had increased than usual. So i had to try many different drivers, until the one who accepted to carry me. We experienced alot of traffic and delay on the road. When i reached the first drop where i have to take another car, the drivers were not going my direction. I had to wait and a car passed by and carried me for free.
When i got to the boss's house, i greeted every one and one of her children who is my troublesome friend came and started teasing me that i cam late ,of which i was the first . We agreed to be there at 10 but i was there at 8 to assist with some one of two things. I just laughed at her and i was asked to peal ripe plantains and slize into little pieces and fry . I pealed it and later on fried in and turned it into a big collenda.
After frying, i i went and took the pot of yams that was on the fire and pealed off the extra soft parts of the ones beneath and the brown and black ones that were caused by dirt and heat from the cover of the pot. I arranged it and put them in the flask. I pured stew into its own flask, vegetables soups, and parked it into the car with the boss's son. We packed other chafing dishes in the car, table skirts, plated and cutlery. We drove to the hall where the reception of the funeral will take place. We reached there and took everything into the hall and started arranging them.
The hall for the funeral reception
We were told that we have to serve to 500 people, but there were 1000sits in the hall. They said another cathering service had been called to serve food upstairs while we served down stairs. Which means that each cathering service has to serve 500people each. We arranged our chafing dish on the table and our cutlery and poored water into the deep chafers so we could put burners under to heat the food that would be put in them.
I was assisting by one of the workers who brought the low chafing to me to serve the different meals while he carried it to the table and arranged them in a good order. We always start with chicken and fish, followed by fried rice or rice and stew, fried plantains and white beans ,yams and vegetables soup, fried full sized irish potatoes and cabbage, and any other special dish that is needed by the owners of the occasions.
After service and dressing up, we made sure everything was perfect, then after about an hour or two, the mass in church over and people came to the hall. They gave the run down of the program, they prayed and said did few activities and we were asked to prepare our selves and the manner to go to the table was said and after prayers , people came to the table, got to food and drinks and ate. After eating we moved from table to table and carried plates, used hand napkins to wipe and pack in the crates for plates and after the program had ended we carried everything out and packed them in the car. The driver carried it the first time, and the second time it began to rain . We packed it under the rain and went to the house. We washed it and after it was getting late , we left.
I got to the junction and couldn't find a car. I trekked for long and when i saw a car ,he took me right to my destination. I paid and went to my house.
