My first experience in testing wheats growth in my farm in Bamenda as i still doubted
the soil quality.
On a personal note my own wheat farm has been facing a number of challenges. The first challenge was the difficulty to adapt to the nature of the soil which had more of laterites. Given that I have been using fowl droppings as manure in almost all the crops I have been growing in recent years, I decided to use the same manure on wheat to see how it would react. It is my first time using fowl droppings. But past experiences show that , goat dung, cow dung, pig dung and rabbit dung are the best for wheat cultivation.
My friend Anna has shown great interest on learning how to grow wheat. I did not hesitate to teach her for free
It has been a very challenging move for some farmers who are still getting into wheat production for the very first time. Many of them are experimenting it's cultivation and growth rate in different parts of Cameroon to see if it adapts to their climate and soil. As for the Northwest Region of Cameroon, wheat cultivation had been tested in some parts of the Bamenda Highlands in the past years and it did well. Some farmers tries in Tatum, Ndu, Kumbo precisely in Riba, Oku, Banten, Jakiri and Sabga hills just to mention a few of the places in which it was tested earlier.
Being a new crop in the community, a lot of people did not see the economic of financial benefits of growing it then . But for a few white foreigners , who came to the Northwest Region around the early 2000's, happily bought and consumed the wheat as whole grain or ground as flour , because it was grown organically with the use of cow dung at that time. I live with some American peace corp volunteers in 2002 and they initiated me into wheat cultivation and consumption. Thank you for reading my background to being able to train on wheat production.
