Extending warm greetings to you all ,I hope everyone is doing fine ,as for me am doing great. A week ago I had pledged to educate the community on green deeds and the management of garbage ,sewage disposal and I had promised to write my weekly reports to update everyone on what am doing in order to realize this pledge. This is a weekly report to tell everyone the step I took towards the eradication of inappropriate disposal of garbage in our community. Yesterday I went to the market to buy some food stuffs and on my way back I passed by a house whose occupants had turned the little farmland just beside their house into a garbage disposing land. I went home having in mind that the following day I would try to do something about this ,when I woke up this morning I quickly did my house chores and finished up all the work my aunt had given me and made sure that there was nothing I left out to prevent my aunty from scolding at me if I went out and came back later than expected because I had to go out and do the clean up and education campaign ,if I may call it this way.

When I got to this residence I met just one lady ,I greated her she replied then asked how she could help me. I didn’t know how to tell what exactly my reason for coming was ,this was because I didn’t know what her reaction might be when I tell her I am just a passer-by and I wanted to educate her on how to take care of garbage...

geez!!!!my feet’s were beginning to shake ,I was a little scared😰
Firstly ,I greeted her in French
Secondly I did not know her and she didn’t know me either ,
Thirdly I was at her house ,
Fourth ,which is the least but not the last she is a francophone and francophones never want anyone minding their business. It took me a lot of courage to stand up to her.
I began by telling her in French ,

“tante ,je suis étudiante en soins infirmiers.S’il te plait ne t’anérve pas j’utiliserais just une minute de ton temps pardon.

“Which goes thus in English;
Aunty ,I am a student nurse please don’t get annoyed I would use just one minute of your time please”

I tried to be as polite as I could ever be 😂then she replied “je pense que to es anglophone” (I think you are an anglophone). I quickly said “yes I am an anglophone” ....
Hopefully this aunty could understand and speak English so I could better explain myself and communicate with her fluently.

I explained everything to her and she offered me a sit. I told her that disposing garbage in this manner was very harmful to our health and I also told her what this garbage is and some of the ways in which this garbage is harmful.

You can read about this in my previous post; https://steemit.com/hive195150/@Nafisatu/green-deeds-i-pledge-to-educate-the-community-the-community-on-doing-green-deed-and-the-management-of-sewage-and-garbage

We discussed ,and I opted to help her take care of the garbage. I made sure to come along with my face mask and a pair of gloves. She gave me a machete and some kerosene.

I gathered the dirt together and poured some kerosene on it then put it on fire. While I begged her to take some photos of me. I told her that when this garbage is burnt ,the quantity is reduced ,then she can now carry just the arches(remains) to the public trash can from there the council would now be in charge.

she gave me some of the reasons for the improper garbage disposal.

•She said one of the reasons for this improper disposal of garbage was because the community trash can (council garbage collector) is very far from their home so they find it difficult to go there all the time to dump this garbage. And when the garbage piles up it becomes too difficult for her.

•She said the council car used to pass around twice a week for everyone to empty their trash but for a while now this hasn’t been going on again.

•She said this was also because she didn’t have the ideology that she could burn this waste ,but thanks to me she can always burn her garbage now.

Though garbage burning is a source of air pollution ,is it better than piling up the garbage because piling it up brings about not only air pollution but also spread of infection and germs by flies and also water pollution which comes about when run off water washes away this garbage into our water bodies.

She was very happy when I did this and wanted to offer me money but I refused collecting the money.

I will work hard towards the goal of achieving my pledge. ### Your Health my priory.
