Steem Cameroon Contest - World Music day WMD(Cameroon)

Hello everyone greetings to you all and hope we are doing well by the special grace of God. Okay I'm here to take part in an international awareness day contest organized by @steem-cameroon. The title of my post is Steem Cameroon Contest - World Music day(Cameroon)

World Music Day is a day which is celebrated every year on 21 June to honour music's spirit and music significance. What usually happens is that Professional musicians and amateur musicians converge to perform concert shows for the public. The theme for World Music Day 2023 is still pending. Its yet to be announced.

Let me give you a brief history on how this day came about.

The very first International World Music Day was celebrated in 1982 on the same day of the Summer Solstice. This event took place in Paris at Fête de la Musique. A man called Jack Lang, who was a French Politician and music journalist at the time conceptualized the idea with another named Maurice Fleuret Who was a music composer and radio producer as well .

They Jack and Maurice were both key members of the French Ministry of Culture at the time. Jack Lang urged people to come out of their homes and celebrate the event by playing music on Summer Solstice. As a result of that action, gradually World Music Day has now become a global and world celebration.

It is very important to note that there is a difference between the World music day and the international music day.

World Music Day is celebrated to encourage aspiring and young musicians to share their art and create a platform for artists to demonstrate their musical abilities. It is celebrated to lay emphasize on the value of music in life. Commemorated on the 21 of June 1982

Meanwhile the international music day was commemorated on October 1 1974. And the main aim of this day is different from that of WMD. The aim is to promote the inter-relation of cultures in music.

How do you or your country or your organization celebrate the day? (50-100 words).

As we all know music is one food for the soul and World Music Day is aimed at sharing the power of music with other people. On this day, several professional and upcoming musicians come together to perform at concerts that are organized specially and various genres and types of music are made available for the public to enjoy.

In my country Cameroon, people are usually encouraged to play music in outdoors as a way of celebrating the world music day. It means that outdoor concerts are mostly encouraged. I even attended a musical concert on Sunday.

What impact does your community gain during and after the commemoration? (50-100 words).

During and after the celebration of this day many upcoming artists are given to platform to show case their talents. And also many platforms are used to promote them, such as in concerts and awards. This gives them more exposure and are encouraged to do more.

In the town of Bamenda Cameroon, all the gospel music artists and musicians in musical instruments there usually have an open door concert where everyone is invited to just play skillfully. At the end of the day rewards are handed over to the best and deserving participants.

This is a way to promote quality music because these artists will have to put in a lot of work and rehearsals to their craft in other to become better at what they do.
