My day actually began the night before as I'd acquired a new Smart lock and so decided that I will have to go through the process of installing it myself because I love DIY projects. I always say I'll stop... but I always rush at the chance of anything DIY coz... you know... it's fun 🤣
First of all, everyone who knows me knows that I am crazy about technology... it is my work, my life, my passion, my everything and so I am always excited about and working towards learning about the latest technologies and how we can use them to improve on every aspect of our lives. It is the basis of the work we do @yems.group and it is who I am.
Anyways, so my friend runs a YouTube channel called MC Smart homes where he does unboxing, walkthroughs, tutorials and reviews of all kinds of smart devices and appliances. So a while back he did a review of the TUYA Smart Door Lock and naturally, I got immediately intrigued.
Having been to his place a few weeks ago and actually seeing the door lock in action... I decided I was going to get one for myself. So I got it and started working my way around figuring out how it works.
If you're wondering why you would need a Smart lock... in addition to watching the review video above, think of it this way... imagine you need to send someone to pick up something from your house... imagine one of your family members is stranded in town and you're not around... Instead of going to the agency to send them your key you can just simply generate a code from your phone and send it to them, so they can input that code and get in. Of course, there are so many benefits to a smart lock... I just mentioned what I think may be the most practical advantage over normal keys
Anyways, after I assembled and configured the lock, I removed the old traditional key lock from my door and it was then I realized that the lock will not fit in the door as the existing holes in the door do not match with the system of the new lock 🙆🏿♂️🙆🏿♂️🙆🏿♂️
♪ Of course, I fucked up 🤣🤣
So, unfortunately, I had to go to sleep and wait for a carpenter to come and work on the door the next day. If you're wondering, my door has bolts which I used to lock the door with and so I was safe.😁
In the morning, the carpenter came and the very first thing that struck me was his toolbox 😍😍😍😍😍
I mean, look at that beauty. If you're thinking of what to give me for my next gift... think no further. I NEED THIS TOOLBOX
So we got to work...
While working, I took some time off to go into the kitchen and make what is probably the only thing I know how to do in the kitchen (fry eggs) 🤣🤣🤣 Yeah! so I whipped up a quick omelette for myself and ate before continuing to work.
So after a few hours of us reinforcing and drilling new holes into my door, we were set. We succeeded in setting up the new door lock as you can see in action below.
After this, I then headed back to the office where I continued with my work for the day right up till about 6 PM when @thegreens came by and we went downstairs to share a few drinks. I then headed home, watched and movie and slept as usual.
So, Circling back to why you should consider a smart lock for your home...
- There is always a backup... if the battery dies, the locks come with a traditional key as well that you can still use to open your door... It'll never lock you outside 🤣🤣🤣
- Greater Security, immediately you unlock and enter your house... the door locks automatically... you'll never again have that thing that you sleep and forgot to lock your door.
- Smarter access... if there are many of you using the house, everyone can have their own codes which can be created and removed at any time without the hassle of printing many different keys.
- IoT... with the continuous growth of Internet of Things technologies, you can continue to harmonize your home with smart devices... use your voice to unlock your door, etc.
- IT WILL MAKE YOU LOOK COOL 😎😎😎
- etc.
