Greetings dear Steemians, I am glad to bring to you another mal practices against our african women and cameroonian in particular how their rights are been violated on daily basis.
Most of our customs believe that when a bride price of a woman has been payed and the husband's dies, the woman will be expected to marry one of her deceased husband's brother's. If she refuses, she will be cursed , chased off the deceased property and may even be forced to pay back the deceased bride price.
This practice is mostly practiced in the northwest and west region of our country. Their argument is the fact that it's the husband's family who pays the woman's bride price and therefore is not only the husband's wife but also as part of his property. So if the husband's dies, she has to marry the deceased brothers.
Considering a woman as a property violates the female right and it is contrary to the doctrines of natural justice, equity and good conscience.
This type of practice should be denounced to the competent authorities, it is obnoxious, repugnant and surprising to witness such practices. It should be noted that forcing a widow to get marry is an offence under the cameroonian criminal law.
