A Rundown of my week: 6th - 9th August, 2024

Steem greetings to all,

It's been a fulfilling week for me, and I'd like to share my experiences with you. Before moving into my accomplishments, it's important to note that this week has been particularly tense in Bamenda due to the ongoing socio-political crisis that has persisted from 2016. Unfortunately, a few lives were claimed , which has heightened fear among the city's residents as military forces have grown increasingly brutal.

Agenda for the Week

Positive Energy Quote once wrote "Starting your week with a fabulous Monday morning! Set the tone for the week."

At the beginning of this week, I set out to achieve the following goals:

  • Learn a plastic recycling skill
  • Write a PB-REP project document
  • Participate in the review of a plastic education and environmental toolkit

UPB Recycling Skills

UPB stands for Upcycled Plastic Bottles. It involves transforming single-use plastic bottles, often discarded on our streets, into planters that can be used for nursing plant seedlings.

I was glad to acquire this skill because it not only addresses the environmental issues posed by plastic pollution—such as air pollution, marine pollution, and land degradation—but also provides an opportunity to generate income. By selling these planters or the tree seedlings grown in them, I can contribute to both environmental sustainability and economic development. These planters are especially advantageous because they are reusable and make watering seedlings much easier, particularly during the dry season.

PB-REP Project Document

PB-REP stands for Plastic Bottle Recycling Education Project. By now, it should be evident that our organization is deeply committed to reducing plastic pollution in our community. We have set an ambitious goal to cut plastic pollution in our city by 80% by 2026. The purpose of this project is to install plastic shredder machines at strategic locations and to mobilize local organizations, schools, and community members to participate in achieving this goal.

This project aims to educate the public about the dangers of plastic pollution, demonstrate how we can transform existing plastics into sustainable and valuable products, and encourage lifestyle changes that will minimize plastic waste.

Reviewing Plastic Education Toolkits

Abbreviated as PEET, the Plastic Education and Environmental Toolkit is a hands-on, practical guide designed for people of all ages, genders, and races. It contains detailed instructions for several DIY projects on how to convert plastics into various valuable items. This week, I contributed to the review process by correcting grammatical errors and assisting in contextualizing the content to ensure it is accessible and relevant to our audience.
