Steem Cameroon Contest - World Food Safety Day (Nigeria)

Greetings my lovely friends

Today I decided to do a little research on what my teacher taught me some years back, I couldn't make some findings back then because I was limited at that age( lack of a mobile device). He told me something which often comes up in most exams, that roadside foods may likely contain dangerous elements like lead.

I wonder how dangerous lead is and I embark on a little study which shows that lead can cause learning disabilities, memory problems, and reduced IQ in children exposed to it at tender age and sometimes it may affect adults. When you are exposed or take in foods which contain greater quantity of lead you may likely suffer diseases like high blood pressure, chronic renal failure, anaemia, kidney damage etc.

I went further to do a little research on how they get into food items and where they come from, my study shows that since they are on the roadside, lead gets to them through vehicles passing by, reasons is because lead can be formed from the combustion of fossil fuel which every vehicle passing by undergo continuously.

Lastly, what all this study has, in conclusion, is that almost all roadside food items have either been exposed to and contain lead, so the big question here is, "How can this be dealt with?, Are people aware of this?, this is where the problems lie, many may not be aware of this, so this is the function of World Food Safety Day, to create awareness, this awareness includes making people know and helping them practice this. Lead can be destroyed in foods by processing them and the food processing techniques are frying, cooking and other industrial processing techniques.

In NIGERIA, we have NAFDAC and their function is to go about and scrutinise those foods that are processed but have reached their expiring date and drugs or herbal drugs that have not received complete approval for selling, drugs ARE also food, so they make sure this thing we take into our body won't be harmful in the long run.

NAFDAC means NATIONAL AGENCY FOR FOOD AND DRUGS ADMINISTRATION AND CONTROL

I have said so much concerning World's Food Safety Day already, The mascot I would like to present here is a photograph of some roadside foods which I took some days ago. I would like us to understand that health should be our priority and that we should support the world's foods there by telling people to cook thoroughly meat sold along the road before eating.

As part of your contribution to the world's food safety day, you can share this with a friend, let me start by inviting @eudisdiaz @emmyjnr @lucky4karmen @miracuriosidades and @mayzapata2010 to join in this contest
