Brooding is the management of a day old chick from day one to about three weeks of age ,this includes provision.of heat and proper care during chick's early growing period.

The brooding of one day old chick's

brooding is taking care of a day old chick's until they are no longer in need of supplementary heat .in the town of bamenda brooding is a major business especially during festive season like Christmas as of now where chicken are so expensive it becomes so serious from September, November and December .we have two types of brooding natural brooding and artificial brooding
Natural brooding is a system of brooding were farmers raised few chicken each year ,these types of brooding is always done naturally by the hen depending on the size of the hen where the hen will brood 10,15-20 chicken ,the hen will provide the warmth temperature required by the chicks ,this normally between three weeks period.

Artificial brooding
This types of brooding involved the management of chicks without the aids of hen , which is done by the means of temperature controlled brooder ,the artificial brooder has serval advantage over the natural brooding.

• there is no season for rearing artificial brooding

• a single person can brood thousand of chicks as compared to natural hen that brood just 15_20 chicks

• the required temperature for brooding can be moderated as compared to natural brooding

• the feeding of chicks can be undertaken as plan by the brooder.
  The following factor are taken into consideration
  

• temperature the temperature of the brooding house need to be adjusted to suit the chicks

• fresh air the brooding room must have fresh air always
  -dryness the house need to be dry that applying of saw dust always in case of wet place
  -adequate light needed there must be constant supply of light
  -disinfection of the brooding house the house must be disinfected
