Good day my fellow steemians ,how are you all doing i hope you are doing great, fellow me as o write
What do you know about the day? (Make sure you mention the actual date.) |
---|
June 12 is democracy day in Nigeria, which is to say that today is our democracy. Though we used to celebrate our democracy day on May 29, which is the day the Nigerian government used to hand over power to another government or the existing one, which is done every 4 years,
Democracy Day was shifted to June 12 because it was the day that Mk Abiola died after winning the presidential election in one of the most free and fair elections that was ever heard in Nigeria. Mk Abiola was sent to jail by the then president for winning the election.
On June 12, he drank a tea that was poisonous in jail. When granting an interview to a journalist, Kofi Annan De started coughing, and he was rushed to the hospital, where it was later confirmed that he had passed away.
June 13 used to be known as Abiola Day; it used to be celebrated in Lagos and some other western parts of the country, but now it is celebrated all over Nigeria as Democracy Day.
How do you, your country, or your organization celebrate the day? |
---|
In my country, Nigeria, this is how we celebrate democracy :, the president, his excellence, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, will address the country in a live broadcasting in television . He will use the opportunity to address the issues Nigeria is facing, like the removal of subsidies, the appointment of new ministers, the building of new projects, etc.
On Democracy Day, public holidays are always declared.
All the civil servants will not go to work.
The army will parade in Aso Villa, which is the president's villa.
The president will cut the national cake.
What impact does your community have during and after the commemoration? |
---|
In Nigeria, where the country doesn't gain much, the president will address the country.
Students will stay at home because there will be no school, and workers too will stay at home.
The late heroes will be remembered and celebrated.
What issue or concern will you recommend be commemorated this week, and on what date? |
---|
I will recommend that the issue of less privilege and poverty alleviation be commemorated this week so that the poor and needy can be remembered and reached out to. I would like the date to be June 20th.
