Hello fellow Steemians and friends, glad to participate in this contest once again in this amazing community. Thanks to the able team members for doing a great work here.
The international day for the girl child is annually observed on October 11 all over the world. It's a global platform that raises awareness about the challenges girl children face and to promote the rights and empowerment of the girl child and gender equality.
The programme was established by the United Nation in the 2012, pinpointing the importance of addressing gender based issues associated with girl children. Such issues are female genital mutilation, access to quality education, discrimination, health care, protection from violence and other gender related violence against female children.
In my country Nigeria, observing this day generally takes another turn of event due to the country's diverse cultural and religious background and belief system couple with underlying social and political challenges. With a high rate insufficient educational opportunities, child' marriage, gender based violence, cultural related offences against girl child, the focus on girl child's rights is importance for promoting development and a move forward of the nation.
However, the event is usually marked by various activities aimed at empowering girls and raising awareness about their individual rights. Schools, NGOs and community advocacy groups usually organise programmes such as workshops, rallies and seminars, allowing girl children to open up and discussing their feelings, challenges while encouraging communities to engage in social dialogue promoting gender rights and equality.
For example, most schools organise debate topics and essay competitions including girl's empowerment giving room to female students speaking about issues affecting them. NGOs such as Girl Child Network GCN, Women Rights Advancement and Protection Alternative WRAPA play crucial roles in advocacy and providing support for the celebration.
Advocacy from from various social media campaigns creating hashtags to expand its reach to the younger audience with featured stories of gender based issues and how to overcome them inspiring girls to be resilient and be ready to be vocal about their rights.
International day for the girl child reminds us about the need to champion the cause of the right of the girl children, serving as the advocacy and action to empower and improve the lives of tamale children through collaboration of government agencies, non-governmental organisations, educational institutions, social media campaigns and local communities striving towards a brighter future where girl children are empowered, protected, free from gender based voilence, inequality and all forms of gender related issues in the country.
