Gender-based violence- a phenomenon which is deeply rooted in gender inequality, and is one of the most notable human rights violations in our present day society. It's violence against a person because of their gender- be it women or men, but the majority of victims are women and girls.

In Africa, the rate of gender based violence against women is quit alarming and is constantly on a rise. Girls as young as even 5 years starts experiencing this violence Most victims of gender based Violence suffer sexual and reproductive health consequences, including forced and unwanted pregnancies, unsafe abortions, trauma, depression, sexually transmitted infections including HIV, and even death.

Gender based violence is practiced in almost all sector of life, be it school, job, market, office, family- with the family level being the highest place where violence against women is being practiced. On average, 7 in 10 women who are married in Africa have been violated in one way or the other.

In some African homes, fathers concentrate more on sending their male children to school and exposes them to several different opportunities while they pay less attention on the girl child because they consider her as some other man's property. When the child girl try to speak out or retaliate against such a a practice, violence is insinuated on her. In other homes, girls are being forced into abusive relationships and marriages out if their will. We all need to stop this!!! As we are all humans.
