An Assessment on Covid-19 Impacts on Food Supply Chain.

Greetings to all my fellow steemians. I would like to share with you ways how to assess the impact of covid-19 on our food supply and systems. The pandemic was just a surprise to mankind and it devastating effect was a life time challenges. Many lager farm estates were closed down, many lost their jobs, there was high demand but limited supply within that period. Putting in some drastic measures, there a bit relief but the agricultural food supply chain was destroyed. This was so because of the restrictions put in place that limit agglomeration of persons.

Impact of food supply chain

Many farmers had and are still facing real difficulties in accessing farm inputs due to the last closure of boundaries which affected the agricultural trading shops. Some farmers were affected by the lack of financial means to operate. Looking at the supply chain, it was so difficult in regards to man power and workers could not attain to work due to restrictions to gatherings. This was in respect to measures put into place and halting of public transport. Some business owners due to their age refuse to stay at home rather than to open their business in fear of the deadly virus. As a mater of facts, employers were not left out because work could not be flexible due to the restriction thus increasing a reduction in the services provided.

Looking at the supply chain, those who were to move in respect to the supply chain were faced with their business restrictions when the pandemic just started. When the restrictions were lifted after sometime home and abroad, some government still had to put in some stiff restrictions which affected land and see movement from potential entrepreneurs.
After this stage, supports inform of inputs from government and other bodies came in to assist farmers though information was not well spread limiting many from benefits from such schemes. All these made farmers to limit sales and this made prices for commodities to increase as the supply chain on food production was affect. To solve these, online business were created to make supply at homes. This however created job openings to many who tried making home deliveries as quarantine intensified.
Comparing these, it’s seen that despite the lockdown there was increase market for modern retailers which include supermarkets and a reduction in retail prices for sometime.

However, most of the commodity under controlled had no big problem.The measure put in place to reduce COVID-19 have drastically affected people’s livelihoods and the ways of households to access food and other basic needs. Some big agribusiness owner are believing and having hopes for changes in the home markets in relation to food demand and supply. With the conditions at hand, we can all observe from the market trends that government can not stop importation as there is a reduction in the products available in the market. All these have led to the following implications as can be seen below.

Implications

The presence of the COVID-19 pandemic had hit the agricultural food system which thus have led to some serious changes within the short and long term. Despite the delay in the food supply system, the government have addressed the issue encouraging farmers to be resilient and be innovative to increase food production. This pandemic have led to some challenges in the agricultural business sector in line with limited market demand and supply.
