Greetings to all my steemians. Hope we are doing ok. Today I will be sharing with you my findings on how treated house mosquito nets are used. Malaria is a serious disease in Cameroon and need to be taken care off. Many do not take it serious and that’s why when treated bed nets are shared to them, they turn it and use it for other purposes which are not related to malaria prevention.
using treated nets for catching green grasshopper
Malaria in Cameroon continues to be a serious disease which is a major cause of increase death within most needy groups, children of around 5 years of age, pregnant women and the poor. The use of treated bed nets is one of the most advice ways to limit malaria. The government have been distributing these nets free to the vulnerable so that they can help limit the spread of malaria and some other born diseases especially within Bamenda and it’s environs.
Furthermore, findings from PMI Nkwen, Bambui and it’s environ shows that there are more than 400 hospital-based patients and 29 tested positive for malaria. The same source shows that those tested positive for malaria have been handed free treated malaria bed nets. Most of these bed treated nets are for household use but many have diverted their use for other purposes such as fishing nets, nursing seeds, footfall nets and green grasshopper catching nets.
Equally most of those handed the nets have diverted the use and have complained that the major problem with the usage of treated bed nets is as a result of heat and the feeling of suffocation. They have all Aknowelege that the nets handed to them are all of good conditions but instead of allowing it than using is better to do other related activities which will be beneficial to them.
From the information gotten from the use of treated bed nets, the results show a significant reduction in the increase of malaria within Bamenda and it’s environs. We should be recommending that the government should not slow its efforts in the sharing of these treated nets especially to the needy within our society so as to completely stop malaria and other related mosquito borne diseases. Sensitization should be constantly done to reduce the poor use of treated nets for agricultural purposes. There should be a unit to access how the nets are use after being distributed.
Thanks for finding time to read my post.
I think that some people just deliberately use these nets for other things not because of the heat or feeling of suffocation they feel under but because they feel that the new things of nowadays cannot compare to their old times.
Others just neglect the actual use of the nets. Some just feel that it will always be shared so they can destroy at will.
While some just complain as they hear others complaining not that they have actually experienced it. 😂😂😂. So they don't even use the nets for it's original use.
Never the less, the government is not relenting her efforts to keep sensitising and sharing.

It's a pity how a lot of people have actually diverted to use of mosquito nets.Expired mosquito nets have ,somewhat been very useful to farmers who use them to guard their farm against birds and other stray animals. On a contrary, a lot of people have diverted to the use of mosquito nets from protecting families from being infected by the mosquitoes to using the nets to guard their farms even when kids and other family members badly needs to be protected from malaria infections. It is important to make an individual effort to protect and make good use of the mosquito nets handed to us by the policymakers. Thank you for sharing.

I think we need more sensitization on the importance of using mosquitoes nets and other methods of preventing malaria. Here in South west they complain of heat, i really wonder about their complaint in bamenda that is cold.. weh Cameroon

I think that the issue is because these nets are given for free. If they were paid for, no matter how little the price, people will not misuse it.
