Citizen Engagement in Forest Conservation

Greetings to my fellow steemians. Today is another lucky day and I would like to share with you the importance of collective action in trying to protect and conserve our forest. The forest as we all know plays a greater role in climate change mitigation by providing a Carbon well function, it provides us with food, fruits, pure water, fresh air, medicine and it has a great role to plays as well in our culture and tourism. This explains why we have to work together as one to help protect and take good care of our forest.

Forest for life

We can fully engage in forest conservation if only we can creat more tree nurseries so that we can have different varieties of nature friendly trees to plant. When we have nurseries we creat the chances of sustainability and this helps to reduce illegal exploitation.
When these nurses tress are ready we should take the initiative to always make sure they are planted so that we can green our environment to protect it from any danger. Not withstanding, exchange visits are encourage to share knowledge on forest regeneration. Most of those we encourage to plant are bee farmers because their sector can not fully operate without trees giving flowers for nectar hunt.

We creat nurseries and plant the tress but we need most to monitor and prevent forest threats so as not to lost the ones we have planted. This encourages fire tracing by the communities around the forest, punishing those going against the forest laws, making sensitization on the importance of protecting the forest by providing sign post, radio announcements and trainings just to make a few. With such a global sense of collaboration it’s important to creat forest stakeholders who can have a body to monitor and eliminate forest threats like bush fires and illegal forest exploitation.

Protecting the forest is very necessary and such initiatives needs a body to take control. I’m such situation we need a forest stakeholders platform where exchange visits from different forest management institutions will be discussed, building of capacity on forest falters issues and most importantly citizen engagement in programs, suggestions, interviews just to name a few.

The community should not only conserve but have to know that protecting the forest helps their soils to be conserved this increasing food production. This is in turn important to empower communities on the importance of agro-forestry skills to help in soil enrichment. Seeds need to be distributed to farmers so as to help them increase their production and as well encourage and promote forest gardens. All these initiatives via sharing helps a lot in conservation of our forest by all around the forest.

Knowing all the benefits of the forest, it’s important to do environmental education to forest users. This is mainly to build future forest users to be nature lovers. This helps in changing their way of thinking from the local ways thus sustainability. Social media platforms can be created just for this purpose to help sensitize the masses on the importance of protecting the forest. We need to target schools, njanghi groups, youth groups and more for such sensitization.

Today we breath because there is a forest somewhere. Due to ignorance we harvest all just for our selfish interest without care of what becomes tomorrow. We need to build a generation of nature lovers who are not shame of their profession and who are willing to fight and sacrifice for our Mother Earth. We only talk of climate change but many do not know that when we felt down trees carbon dioxide which is a green house gas is realize but when we plant more trees, the trees help to absorb it thus protecting us from danger.
