Creating a Local Irrigation scheme to Increase Food Production

Greetings to all in this platform. Hope we are all sound and healthy. Today I will be sharing some tips with you on how to increase food production via irrigation within this dry season. It’s believed that a healthy life depends on food consumption and a reduction in food production would eventually lead to a malnourish population.

The crises have increase without seizing. Some of our farm lands have been abandoned with all trying to escape from the grief of war. The pressure have increase with a reduction in food production. The dry season have once more come again with its intense dryness making food production so difficult and increase prices in the market. There is no transportation of land from rural areas to town but we need to eat and eat well. Life have become so difficult and there is need for more technology to increase food production.

The dry season is a constant period in the tropics and Cameroon inclusive. We farmers are faced with water shortages to boost our crops production. With little or no water available to water the crops, this have hinders plant growth thus making it so difficult to produce more food items to feed the population thus food shortages and increase prices.

Developing an irrigation system

Having all these in mind, I decided to creat a local irrigation system in Bamenda which can supply a run way water of more than 3km to my farm for crop production. This have seriously help me to increase short term crop production like lettuce and green species which can be use for this festive season.
The technology is local and needs a lot of maintenance and follow up. The pressure of water needed in the farm is not enough because the irrigation system can only water just half a hectare of land. I need the finances to acquire more sophisticated sprinklers or why not buy a moto pump to supply water to the land. The means is not there but the idea is there. We farmers just need to bring up such initiatives especially now to try increase food production to feed the society.

Normally farmers are always insignificant in the society because many think it’s easy to work in the farm. After all these suffering our food items are not purchased in a good price which can cover the cost of production but we are very happy that many lives depends on us to survive from what we produced.
Couple with this dryness that have reduce food production and increase food insecurity, the pandemic have as well come with its own slow down. The labor force have seriously been affected and some of the measure to contain the disease have limited and reduced importation and exportation of food items.
Thanks for finding time to read through my post. Please let’s do respect farmers because our lives is in their hands to decide. Thanks

Ok, Wow this is one beautiful initiative. To irrigate water locally for such a distance entails alot. Weldon and keep trying. I will definitely share more irrigation tips with you when we become abit mechanised.thanks for sharing.

That's amazing. If in case you don't have a source of water. How will you proceed?

Normally we do locate a water source first but last year we dug a well and use in a water pump then irrigate the farm but we were moved from that area so it’s always better to have a land that belongs but to you then u can easily invest

I see thanks.
If there is no water source you can still dig a well. Nice Idea

Stay bless

What an innovation... Thanks for this 💯

Wow this is a great initiative, 3km is a very long long distance and even if it can supply just half your farm then its not bad. I pray for much harvest

Very interesting sir
And as you rightly said farmers are very important in the society
Courage there

Great work bro...the boy get sense like time wey I no well 😁

Wow thanks fr this bro pretty cool

Courage bro.
i have experienced the job you are doing and i must confess its a daunting task as you might hv to go to the main supply numerous times before achieving ur goal.

Weldon Sir
I got your thoughts and experience perfectly, cuz I have been there also
