Cameroon is blessed with a good number of agricultural potentials, which can help reduce the problem of poverty and increase sustainable development.A good number of youths which is the active population depends on agriculture for survival. For the past years, agriculture in Cameroon have significantly contributed to an increase in the national economy as it accounts for an approximate of 42% of the GNP. The government have put in more efforts on agriculture as one of the main activity for an emerging country.

The highest food production that feeds the country comes from Low-income farmers and just a small part of it is sold to neighboring countries. Food production in Cameroon is not only important for the producer or Cameroon economy but also a significant change on food right within Central African Region. This is the reason many refuse that food insecurity is not a problem in Cameroon as a result of the high production levels. Nevertheless there is still the problem of food insecurity in Cameroon especially in the northern regions and some of the urban centers. With these, there is an increase in urban gardening to improve the quality and quantity to solve the problem of food scarcity. Urban gardening have increase due to increase population and this can not change because food insecurity is increasing.

The impact of environmental toxins have led to hard favorable conditions in plant systems hindering the nutrients needed by plants for its proper functioning. The presence of heavy metals on food can lead to divers health complications to man like infertility, kidney failures and respiratory imperfections. Most of these metals are and are some how essential for a healthy life.

In peri-urban ecosystems, industrial wastewaters are mostly used for the irrigation of crops as a result of water scarcity. As a matter of fact, the levels of heavy metals could be more in urban wetland soils as a result of anthropogenic activities. Widely, vegetables, be it traditional or indigenous, are good components of diets and widely consumed.
