Welcome again to my diary to feed your eyes on how my day going after visiting some tourist site around our city Dear Diary you can see my today visit below. The origins of the city are related to the establishment of the Tikar people who joined the Kingdom of Bamum in the 1700s. In 1884, the city was colonized by Germany until 1916 when it became a colony administered by Great Britain. In 1919, the administration of the Northwest Region and thus the city of Bamenda became only British.
Bamenda, also known as Abakwa and Mankon Town, is a city in northwestern Cameroon and the capital of the Northwest Region. The city has a population of about 600 000 people and is the 4th ranked city of Cameroon.
TOURISTIC TOUR IN THE NORTH-WEST REGION
- The mountainous terrain around the city affords scenic views such as that from the Sabga Mountain over the Ndop plain. From the top of Sabga Hill, you will have a wonderful view over the whole area, with hills, valleys, and waterfalls dotting the beautiful landscape.
- The Mankon Fon's Palace with its newly constructed museum, it’s one of the best-preserved palaces and home to the traditional Achum : one of the oldest buildings in the whole of central Africa.
- The Savanna Botanic Garden, located in Bafut around 10 km from Bamenda. It is roughly 17.58 hectares in size. The garden is home to more than 260 species of plants which are included in a herbarium, a nursery, an orchard, a demonstration farm, Savannah forest, Green forest and jungle village.
- The University of Bamenda, Bambili and Belo Campus;
- The Bamenda Catholic Church;
- The Bamenda central Mosque;
- The Menchum Falls;
- The Waterfalls in Belo;
- The Waterfalls on mount Oku, on the Bamenda Plateau;
The Abi Falls;
The Babangki stone hills;
- The Amazing Lake Bambili;
- The Lake Awing;
- The Lake Oku. Situated close to the village of Oku as well as the biggest mountain in the area, Mount Oku, this lake is a perfect place to enjoy nature as well as beautiful surroundings in a calm and relaxing atmosphere.
- The Ndawara Tea Estate & Ranch. It’s the biggest privately owned tea estate in the world and certainly the greatest in whole West Africa. Only situated around 16 km from the center of Belo, this little town surrounded by about 5000 hectares of tea plants is definitely a must-see in the North-West Region.
- Shum Laka cave, witness to the past of humans. This site was inscribed on the indicative list of the world heritage of Unesco in 2006 ;
- The Saddle Hill Ranch, Bafut;
- The Zenna Resort Center, Bambili;
- The Zwinkels Mountain Lodge, Belo;
