Raw gold is so unsightly and almost useless however a gold jewellery is enough to cause divorce. Raw cassava is so almost not eatable, however bread made from cassava flour sits at the president's table and men crave for it.
From the food you ate, the clothes you put on, the phone in your hands and almost every useful products around you are made up of what is known as "Raw Materials". Let's look at it in details.

Raw materials can be defined as a substance used to create a finished or semi finished good. It is one of the requirements for any finished goods to appear. Raw materials is an indispensable need for any industry as it is the lord of production. It is also called Feedstock.

Raw materials are classified into two major classes these are;
- Based on Its Source
- Based on Its Nature
Classification of Raw materials From it source: Raw materials are classified from it source when we talk about where they originate.By this we mean, Raw materials are either;
Plant Based Raw Materials e.g Natural Rubber, Cassava, Cocoa, Cotton etc. Or Animal Based Raw Materials e.g includes, wool, hide and skin, bones and many others.
Classification of Raw materials based on it Nature: this has to do with how the raw material comes about or exists.
This class is subdivided into;
Natural and Synthetic Raw Materials.
Natural Raw materials are gotten naturally from mother nature and are tapped by humans for their use. Examples include, Gold, diamond, metal ores, limestone. Etc
Synthetic Raw materials are those that are produced by humans to use in the production of other goods. They are used to complement or make up for the lack of excesses of natural raw materials. Example include, Calcium trioxonitrate (v) which is the same as a purified limestone.

When raw materials are converted the results in finished or semi finished goods which are beneficial to man. The table below shows raw materials and their finished goods.
