Remembering the past and celebrating the future...

Today being the 15th day in January, is epic and
it's going to be a surprise if there's no national parade and honorary gunshots at certain barracks. On this day, the members of the armed forces gather together to honour the Armed Forces Day.

The Armed Forces Remembrance Day

This day is always celebrated on the 15th January of every year in Nigeria. This year is no different as the armed forces remebrance celebration held in every state with particular reference to that of the country's capital held at the Nation's capital - Abuja

The event held at a special ground (The Eagles Square Cenotaph - a place which is reserved for the armed forces) in the nation's capital stadium.

During the event, we had in attendance, the president of the country, the Chief of Defence Staff as well as representatives from each of the armed forces (the Police, Army, Navy and Air Force).

The 15th day of January is set aside to honour fallen soldiers, retired soldiers, those who are in service and those who advanced the course of the nation.

The event at first was always held with the common wealth 15th November, that was a day set aside to celebrate the ending of the world war and the hereos of the the bitter war. This happened until 1970, where we chose to set aside, 15th January to celebrate the members of the armed forces who laid their lives for the country and the world in general during the world wars and the country's civil war.

15th January, 2024

The occasion of this day was planned about two month ago by a 24 member team, who put together the events of the day. The highlights of the day includes;

Beautiful Parades my members of the armed forces.
Speeches and words of encouragement by the country's president, Senator and chief of army staff to the members of the armed forces, Thier family members and wives.
Wreath laying by the president and other dignitaries to show their respects for the fallen heroes who according to them "gave their today, to let others see tomorrow".
honorary gunshots and other social rituals were carried out.

The media houses and press were not to be left out as they struggled to capture and bring to the general public the fine details of the events and also ask for their opinions and concerns about the armed forces.

Some outstanding members were also remembered and saluted for their brave deeds.

Though I hate wars, violence and blood shed so much, I couldn't help but be moved by sorrows concerning today's activity. I just wish the world would be in peace and we won't have cause to celebrate or remember the death of someone who had no choice but to take another's life due to a misunderstanding and clash in ideology and thoughts for the country's sake.

I commiserate with the family members of those who lost their loved ones to war. Be strong and stay strong.
