What do I know about the day?

International day of sign language is culled from the fact that the deaf deserves their right as human beings. In our society, we see people with various disabilities. With these disabilities, there are limited to several functions and can’t function like a whole human being. In the case of the deaf, they have issues in hearing sound which impair them in their hearing abilities.

Because of this, communication is nearly impossible to them due to their conditions. That’s why sign languages were introduced to them so that communication could be made from making gestures or signs with their hands. Even with this, some of them don’t know about this. That’s why the UN general assembly marked out September 23 to celebrate International day of sign language.

Description of the Mascot

This mascot is a drawing of two hands making a gesture. As we all know that the hands are the primary transmitter of this language. Without the hands involved, the language might not be possible as the deaf see signs as sound.

What are the changes you think this day has brought to your community

Since from its inception in 2019, International day of sign language has imparted the society through this ways

  • Establishment of sign language schools: Since it’s difficult to teach sign language in the individual houses of the deaf, a school has to be created. With this, the individuals involved can learn this language from a learning institute. In my state, a school called Special Education Center has been created.
  • Create more sensitization: Due to the effects of this day, sign language is taught in large demands. It’s no surprise that normal people also learn sign language for communication purpose.
Who are the active promoter, and my impact to this day

The main promoter of this day remains the UN general assembly. They make sure that this day is celebrated annually and its aim to the society is accomplished. With this, they urge countries of the world to join the celebrated which they obliged.
What I can do to contribute into this day is creating more sensitization to my locality. In it, I’ll urge everyone to learn sign language for the sake of communication. If the deaf alone studies it and makes sign gestures to you, will you understand and respond back? That’s why we have to learn this unique language.

I invite @bossj23, @nsijoro and @missyleo to this contest.
