The 3rd place match was scheduled for February 5th at the Amadou Adhijo Stadium in Yaounde which kick off at exactly 8pm.
Burkina Faso was well prepared for the challenge of the 3rd place with their posible 1st 11 on the pitch. It was not the same case with Cameroon where we saw team B line up to challenge for the 3rd place.
Only 48 hours from their defeate in the semi finals we saw another humiliation from Burkina Faso in front of the indomitable lions fans. 2 - 0 at half time and another goal just after the half time . It was 3-0 on score board at the 70th minute.
The game looked finished after Steeve Yago, an own goal from Cameroon goal keeper and Dango Aouttara put the Stalions in to a magnificent 3-0 command. Thanks to Stephen Bahoken late goal and the Cameroon goal magician Vincent Aboubakar who was substituted at half time scored 2 goals in 3 minutes to help his team go in for penalties
shoot-out .
In scoring twice Aboubakar secured the goalden boot.
The penalty shoot-out was quite different from what we saw 48 hours ago againts Egyptian but never the less the indomitable lions secured the 3rd position by beating Burkina faso 5-4 on penalties thanks to Onana for stopping one of the Stalions from scoring and an xxl final penalty shoot from Oyongo Bitollo . The party began and joy came over the faces of 24 million population.
While both teams the indomitable lions and the Stalions have had a good run in the tournament the Cameroon team have don it with styl as againts the Stalions with lots of determination infront of home crowd the lions won 4 games drew 1 of the 5 pass matches befor losing on penalties in the semi finals.
Not even tasting defeate in 540 minutes of football in normal time.
Burkina Faso just manage to win 3 had 2 defeats and a draw before losing again last night to make it average on ballance sheet 3 wins 3 defeats and a draw .
A quick reminder Cameroon still have a chance to battle for the Quater world cup 2022. The indomitable lions will face the former African Champions on date 23rd of march in Cameroon and return to Algeria 3 days later to complete the challenge who ever wins or become favourite will joint other 4 African teams to represent Africa in the World cup.
