Tuesday, July 30, 2024, was an inspiring and promising day for the people of Bamenda. Despite the gloomy weather, my boss and fellow coworkers attended an event organized by the City Mayor at UP Station, themed #KEEPBAMENDA. The gathering aimed to address the alarming rate of garbage being dumped on the city's streets. The Mayor emphasized the importance of proper waste disposal and encouraged residents to suggest and implement solutions to reduce street dumping. To support these efforts, the Mayor distributed a significant number of buckets designated for waste disposal, each color-coded to indicate the type of waste. He encouraged residents to adopt similar practices in their homes to ensure the initiative's success. The crowd responded enthusiastically to the Mayor's call to action, appreciating his dedication to improving the city's cleanliness.
Following the Mayor's speech, Mr. Ngalim Franklin, CEO of THE GREENS, was introduced. He showcased his innovation, the #SHREDDER, a machine designed to recycle plastic bottles by shredding them. Mr. Franklin highlighted the machine's potential to not only keep Bamenda clean but also to create employment opportunities for local youth. He announced that his company would sell the machines provide its guidance on their proper use. The audience warmly received this initiative, recognizing its potential benefits for the community.
At the conclusion of the event, the distributed buckets were eagerly taken by attendees as they returned to their daily activities. While we waited for transportation to arrive to pick up the #SHREDDER machine.
