The first Caledonian Chamber Choir concert was in Comrie Parish Church on 26 August 2022, followed by a concert in the church of the Inverpeffray Library near Crieff on 27 August.
I recorded the second concert and it was wonderful. Thank you to Peter Banks for stepping in and allowing this to happen after the conductor, Edward Longstaff, came down with COVID-19 after Friday's concert. It was in the balance, but Peter kindly picked up the baton and, I'm sure you'll agree, did a fantastic job.
Thanks also to Peter for providing me with the high angle from his iPhone. It was a challenge filming in that small space, so while the video quality isn't great, the audio came out well and that, after all, is what it's all about!
Here's the blurb from the programme.
The Caledonian Chamber Orchestra, a brand new ensemble, started life as an idea in summer 2022 to achieve two goals. Firstly, to provide high-quality musical education for young musicians entering the profession and secondly to give chamber orchestra concerts for the local community in Perthshire.
The orchestra met for the first time on Wednesday at Ardvreck school in Crieff, where they have been rehearsing and playing chamber music (sometimes until 3 in the morning!) Supported by two world-class tutors, Patrick Curlett (Associate Principal First Violin, RSNO) and Rebecca Roberts (Found member: Orchestre de l'Opéra National de Lyon). This allows an immersive experience which helps build the relationships required to perform these great works and simultaneously create musical friendships that will last a lifetime.
