The Doctor's Opinion, with Commentary | Alcoholics Anonymous

in hive-196037 •  3 years ago

Alcoholics Anonymous is a book as well as an organisation. It's known as 'The Big Book' and it sets out the blueprint for the 12-step program of recovery. It opens with a letter from Dr William D. Silkworth called in a chapter entitled The Doctor's Opinion.

I like to direct newcomers to this part of the book as I feel that it explains very well just what it is that we alcoholics suffer from.

I've read the chapter in this video and gone on to comment on some parts of it, talking about how I relate to it and how I'm putting it into action.

Hey Cam,
Thanks for the read out. Have you heard of This Naked Mind.
I lean more into this way of breaking the cycle. I struggle with the message of weakness and give into a higher power of Alcoholics Anonymous . This Naked Mind way of tapping into the unconscious mind and reprogramming with practical truths really sits well with me.
That being said… i really think that it doesn’t matter what road leads to an addiction free life, each person finding whatever road that is best for them is the key. I really like this ‘phenomenon of craving’. It really captures that moment of deciding to have a drink.
You have a great reading voice. I really like listening to you. Miss you Cam. Hoping you and the Fam are doing well these strange days.
