How to Properly Apply Makeup to Dry Skin | Natural Finish

Applying makeup on dry skin may be slightly challenging at times, as you have to deal with dry and flaky skin. However, amazing products are available on the market to deal with this issue and help you achieve a beautiful finish on your skin.

Step 1: Wash your Face

Before moving on to the makeup products, you must first wash your face.

Method 1:

Wash your face with a washcloth and little water, as this acts as mild exfoliation.

Then use a gentle cleanser meant for dry skin. Most often, they do not require to be used with water. Instead, massage the cleanser on your dry skin and then remove it either using a damp washcloth or cotton pads.

Method 2:

Apply a gentle cleanser for dry skin. Keep your face wet or dry (depending on the cleanser) and massage it into the skin, before removing it with or without water.

Some two-in-one cleansers offer to both cleanse and exfoliate your dry skin.

You may otherwise use a very gentle face scrub once a week to get rid of dry and flaky skin.

Thereafter, pat your face dry before moving on to the next step.

Step 2: Apply a Moisturiser for Dry Skin

This step is extremely important. DO NOT skip this step.

Choose a moisturiser rich enough for your dry skin to keep it hydrated, soft, smooth and moisturised throughout the day.

Take a little moisturiser on your fingertips and gentle apply it all over your face. Let it soak into the skin before moving on.

Step 3 “Optional”: Use a Good Primer

Applying primer is optional. Different moisturising or smoothing primers available on the market which can help to change the appearance of your dry skin, make it glow or smoothen its surface.

Step 4: Applying Tinted Moisturiser, BB/CC Cream or Foundation for Dry Skin

As a base, choose a product that would not dry out your skin further. Stay away from products with matte finish, as they can grab on to dry skin patches.

Instead choose a product that would give you a hydrated, dewy or radiant glow.

Depending on the coverage you want, choose between tinted moisturiser, BB/CC cream or cream/liquid foundation.

Apply it either with your fingertips, or a damp makeup sponge or a foundation brush. Blending it into your skin would work best when using circular and/or dabbing motions.

Step 5: Applying Concealer for Dry Skin

Not every concealer is great for dry skin. Most of them having a thick and dry texture can make the skin look worse.

Similar to your base product, go with a concealer that does not feel dry on the skin, but instead gives you a moisturising and comfortable feeling, adding a slightly dewy finish. Liquid or cream concealers work the best.

Step 6: Applying Face Powder for Dry Skin

Some people may not require applying face powder at all and their makeup would still stay put.

However, if you like applying face powder, do not overdo it, otherwise it may give a very matte and dry look and all the efforts you may have put in would be gone.

Apply little face powder to set the concealer and undereye area with a small brush. When using a larger brush, use a very lightweight or radiant face powder so that your face does not look dry or matte.

Step 7: Applying Blush and Bronzer for Dry Skin

Blush and Bronzer can be applied using any formula–powder, or cream or liquid–depending on the finish you want to achieve and the dryness of your skin.

Some people may use a little blush and bronzer in a powder formula, as it does not get applied or pressed into the skin in a heavier way.

Others may like to stick with cream or liquid, which is also totally fine.

To apply the 3 different formulae, you can use a brush, or your fingertips or a damp sponge.
