Daredevil pilot breaks world record flying through two tunnels

Imagine threading a needle at 250kph, knowing that you’ll almost certainly die if you get it wrong. Sounds like a fun time, right?

For pilot Dario Costa, this is known as ‘the weekend’. The white-knuckle flying ace just smashed a Guinness world record, and it has to be seen to be believed. Costa steered his Red Bull plane through two highway tunnels just outside Istanbul, hovering around a meter off the ground, with only a few meters between his wings and the tunnel walls. If you’ve ever driven through a tunnel in a fast car, you can’t help breathing a sigh of relief when he sees the (literal) light at the end of the tunnel.

Costa broke multiple records with his precision flying, including the first airplane flight through two tunnels, and the longest tunnel flown through with an airplane.

And at least he didn’t try to do it during rush hour.
