Well if you would like to try out a new ecosystem that is outside of the Linuxy world, that may scratch the OS itch some folks may have if Linux does not fulfill that. I personally use Slackware Linux which has some similarities to BSD as well so I do see the fun in testing FreeBSD out in a VM.
