Hello to everyone in Best of India Community. When I came across this Contest Post, I too wanted to try my luck. So, here is my entry for the 'Contest: Your Favourite TV Show' organised by Best of India.

Ever since I was in my high school, I used to watch this TV show very often. The show was very funny, a purely family based show on Indian TV, which made it an instant hit across the nation.

Lets not keep you guessing any further. My favourite TV show is Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashma. 😁🥳😎

About TMKOC -- Brief intro

Taarak Mehta ka Ooltah Chashma (tmkoc) is a Hindi sitcom which is aired on Sony Entertainment Television's Sab TV channel. First premiered on 28 July 2008, this show happens to be one of the longest running TV shows in India, and is telecasted every Monday to Friday at 8:30 P.M. (IST). So after doing my school homework tasks and other study assignments I sat down with family to watch this popular show.

Inspiration behind the TV show:

The TV series is inspired from popular Gujrati playwright and columnist Tarak Mehta's weekly column ''Duniya Ne Undha Chasma" in 'Chitralekha' magazine.

Story setting:

The TV show primarily focuses around the day-to-day happenings at a residential complex by the name of Golukdham Society located in Powder Gali, Film City Road, Goregaon East, Mumbai. Often this society is referred to as a 'mini-India' due to the fact that people from different parts of India are living here and play lead characters.

Every now and then, the society members find themselves in out of the box situations and the way they try to solve the matter is very funny in itself. At the end of every particular story, the show turns up with a moral which sends a positive message to the society.

Gada family

The show TMKOC is loosely centred around the Golukdham society in general and the Gada family in particular.

Jethalal Champaklal Gada is probably the most popular character of the show. He is the son of Champaklal Jayantilal Gada and own an electronics shop by the name of 'Gada Electronics'.

They hail from Kuchchhi Gujarati family of Bhachau. Jethalal is married to Daya, who hails from Ahmedabad. Both of them have a son named Tapu who is the leader of the child squad Tapu Sena in the society.

Champaklal Gada is Jethalal's on-screen father
'Jethya' and 'Tapu ke Papa' are fond nicknames of Jethalal called upon by his father Champaklal and wife Daya respectively.

Jethalal is an unapologetic foodie. He loves to eat Jalebi and Fafda usually on Sundays. It is Sundarlal, Daya's brother and Jethalal's brother-in-law, who particularly annoys Jethalal with his funny little mischiefs which are ultimately settled in a comical way.

Natwarlal Prabhashankar Undhaywala a.k.a. Natu kaka and Bageswar Dadukh Undhaywala a.k.a. Baga are employees of Jethalal's electronics shop. Occasionally another shop helper Magan appears in the show. When Jethalal faces trouble in his shop, Natu kaka and Baga doubles the trouble with their funny advices and hilarious English dialogues.

Atmaram Tukaram Bhide is another popular character of the show. He is the secretary of the Gokuldham society and lives with his wife Madhavi and daughter Sonu.

Bhide(L) and Sodhi (R)
While Bhide is a tutor, his wife runs a business of homemade pickles and papad. Bhide looks after the maintenance of the society and often finds a way to blame Jethalal by one way or the other.

The other popular families living in the society are:

The Mehta's
The Mehta family includes Taarak Mehta who is a writer by profession and his wife** Anjali**. Taarak is referred to as 'fire brigade' by his dear friend and show lead ch Jethalal because he usually helps him solve all his problems.

The Sodhi's

Sodhi and his wife
The Sodhi family consists of Roshan Singh Sodhi, his wife and their son Gogi. They hail from Punjab and Sodhi runs a car garage in the locality.

The Hathi's

The Hathi's include Hansraj Hathi who is a doctor by profession, his wife and their son Goli. The family loves food and all the members are excessively obese.

The Iyer's
Krishnan Iyer and his wife Babita Iyer constitute the Iyer's. Mr Iyer is a scientist by profession while Babita is a very fashionable modern-day women and hails from Kolkata. Many of the TV show's comical scenes start from the point Jethalal sees Babita after going to worship the Sun-god on his balcony. Iyer usually interrupts their conversation and the plot gets more hilarious.

Another interesting character in the show is Patrakar Popatlal Pandey. He works as a news reporter for the vernacular newspaper "Toofan Express" where he writes bold articles which he claims can create sensation overnight.

Patrakar Popatlal

He is a sheer miser and never has sufficient balance in his mobile phone. Being a bachelor he's always expecting to get married at the earliest but situation takes a U-turn on every occasion. You can always see an umbrella as his partner of crime.

When the males of the society are free after work in the evening, they usually gather at Abdul's tuck shop to share a soda drink or juice. Abdul is another character of the show whose shop is located just outside the society compound. He is a very helpful guy.

Chalu Pandey
Among the few other characters, Inspector Chalu Pandey is worth mentioning. He is a strict police officer, probably an O.C. of the nearest police station. He gives a troublesome time to the Jethalal in particular whenever such a situation crops up. But everything is settled amicably and on a lighter note.

I used to love this series but damn they are keeping it for years. I mean compared to the office office they are going to stretch it to multiple generations. Good to see if it's your favorite show. :)
