What an amazing, beautiful and exciting contest is this!!! I was looking for this type of contest since a long time and Best of India community community. Indian community and if we forget to share about our cultural and festival? How it can be possible?

We people love to celebrate festivals and someone have exactly said that this is a land of festivals and culture. We never miss any opportunity to enjoy our great festivals.

India is a diversified country that have many culture and languages. Can you believe The SIL Ethnologue have listed 415 living languages for India?

I recently searched out on Wikipedia and found that there are more then 90 festivals celebrated in a year across the country including all states. So, incredible isn't it?

Dusshera

Among all festivals, my favorite festival is Dusshera or we can also call it Vijaya Dasami is a major Hindu festival celebrated at the end of Navaratri every year.

Ramlila Play Characters | Source

It is considered the tenth day of the month of Ashvin's Hindu calendar, the seventh month of the Hindu Luni-Solar Calendar, which falls mainly on the Gregorian months of September and October.

Vijayadashami is seen for a variety of reasons and is celebrated differently in different parts of the Indian subcontinent.

In the south, east, northeast, and other northern states of India, Vijayadashami marks the end of Durga Puja, commemorating the goddess Durga by defeating the buffalo demon Mahishasura to restore and protect dharma.

In these regions, it marks the end of Ramlila and commemorates the victory of the god Rama over Ravana.

At the same time, Arjuna alone killed more than 1,000,000 soldiers and defeated all the Kuru warriors including Bishma, Drona, Ashwatthama, Karna and Kripa, a remarkable example of victory over good (Dharma) over evil (Adharma).

In other words, it shows respect for one of the attributes of the goddess Devi, such as Durga or Saraswati.

Elsewhere, in Dasara, tall Ravan statues, symbolizing evil, are set on fire with explosives, symbolizing the destruction of evil. The festival also begins preparations for Diwali, an important festival of lamps, celebrated twenty days after Vijayadashami.

Celebrations of Vijayadashami include a procession to the river or the front sea which includes carrying portraits of Durga, Lakshmi, Saraswati, Ganesha and Kartikeya, accompanied by music and songs, after which the images are submerged in water to be dismantled and said goodbye.

Dussehra has its own significance and distinctive features that makes it different from the rest of the festivals celebrated in India. You have a great choice for sure.

Dussehra is a day for all the winners. Its celebrated as a Vijay Diwas.

Very nicely written. Though I am more of fan of the Ganesh festival because it's native to my state. I do like navratri but not that much like ganesh festival. You have written in depth view for this contest. All the best :)
