What is childhood?
It’s when dad still calls you ‘beta’,
And when you still ask mama for help.
And whenever you are in pain.
Your mama’s name you yelp.
Childhood is when you still like balloons
And when your heart still feels for toys.
Childhood is when you still like crackers
And you smile at their every noise.
Childhood is when you’re still confused,
With the words you misspelled earlier.
Childhood is when you say you understood,
Even when nothing is clear.
Childhood is when your mom still scolds you
For leaving the lights and fans on.
Childhood is attacking the food
When all the guests are gone.
Childhood is when you eat mango
With it all over your hand.
Childhood is when you visit the beach
And still make those structures of sand.
Childhood is when you still feel
Like swinging on the swings.
Childhood is when you sing those jingles
When your little one sings.
Childhood is when you still can’t resist
Popping the bubble wrap.
Childhood is when you still fill the balloon
with the water from the tap.
Childhood is finding shapes
In the clouds and the star.
Childhood is when you act like
Smoking your dad’s cigars.
Childhood is when you still
Want to be a child.
Childhood is when you act of being hurt
Even when the pain is mild.
Childhood is when you read this poem
And imagine what all you did.
Because no one can ever forget
Their adventures as a kid.
