Holi

Holi is a Hindu festival celebrating spring, love, and new life.

Some families hold religious festivals, but for many Holi has plenty of fun. It is a colorful festival, with dancing, singing and throwing powder paint and colorful water.

Holi is also known as the "festival of colors".

What is Holi's story?

Holi also celebrates the Hindu god Krishna and the history of Holika and Prahlad.

Hiranyakashipu was a bad king. He had a special power that made him almost invincible and wanted everyone in his kingdom to serve him.

He had great power and began to make himself a god and to punish or kill anyone who disobeyed.
Hiranyakashipu had a son named Prahlad. Prahlad disobeyed his father and served Vishnu instead, so his father plotted to assassinate him.

The king asked his sister, Hansika, to help kill Prahlad. Holika wore a special dress that would protect her from fire. So he planned to trick Prahlad into putting him in the fire,

But because he was using his power to do evil, the plan failed and the robe flew from Holika covering Prahlad. Prahlad was safe, and Vishnu defeated the wicked king.

Today, Hindus light fires in Holi to represent the victory of good over evil.

What do Holi colors mean?

Some people believe that the colors of Holi came from Krishna by throwing colored water over his milkmaids when he was a boy. This developed into the practical Holi game .

Then it becomes very much popular around, people loved it so much they started really enjoy this festival, and I personally enjoy playing Holi : )
