The hate

I hate it.

Seeing a special on the Shoah, a series of reflections came to mind on this sentiment, which invests many aspects of our lives beyond purely racial hatred. I have respect, admiration and affection for Liliana Segre, whom I consider to be a very wise woman and who has understood exactly how the world works and what should be done to make it run at its best. The Segre has identified the problem: hatred, in fact. It is a systemic poison, which takes root in every cell of the body and therefore of the social fabric. It's not just hatred towards the so-called "outsiders", but it's what is also directed against the opponent, against those who "are different from you" or think differently from you. Setting up a commission that fights hate in all its manifestations and declinations has always seemed to me an unrealistic goal. Only an education that molds young people from an early age (bringing them closer to culture, art and "healthy" sport) could achieve a certain result over time. For the moment, it would be better to make every effort to identify and punish in an exemplary way those who - via social media - send hate messages to the Segre and those who, like her, bear witness to the horror of war. In the hope that respect and (above all) empathy can be visible like cool photos filled with learned quotations and meaningless aphorisms.
