Hi everyone!!
History and Origin
Today I am going to tell you about the skill I am learning now in my Capoeira school. I love it as it is a combination of Martial art and dancing. It was originally from Africa and was developed by african slaves in Brazil. There is a version that Capoeira was created by slaves because they were forbidden to practice martial arts so they masked it with musicians instruments and dancing.
Basic idea
As you can see normally people stand in a circle and clap hands. The people play live music with instruments and sing loud songs in Portuguese language. In the center there are 2 people who are performing "jinga" and other Capoeira elements.
It may seem that people on purpose are not hurting each other. But when you have 2 professionals they are not trying to fight each other for real. We sit in a circle that is called "roda" in Portuguese. There are many different movements and kicks. Each person can develop his own style. The rhythm of performance may depend on played music and capoeristas themselves.
Benefits for kids
First of all I developed coordination, strength, flexibility, reaction, with the help of exercises based on capoeira and various movements that imitate the movement of animals. I learned movements and basic acrobatic elements: handstand, bridge, wheel. In my school there are kids of different ages and levels. We all learn and help each other to master this amazing skill.
