I have this joke I tell when people are faced with dire conditions. Imagine that I become sick. There are two options. Either I will get better, or I will get worse. If I get better, there is nothing to worry about. If I get worse, I have two options. Either I live, or I will die. If I live, there is nothing to worry about. If I die, I have two options. Either I go to heaven, or I will go to the other place. If I go to heaven, there is nothing to worry about. If I go to the other place, I will be too busy shaking hands with my friends to worry about anything.
With that attitude, I want to address this video. Every 12,000 years (roughly), a major cataclysm essentially pushes humanity back to the stone ages. A lesser cataclysm occurs in the intervening 6000 years. That last 6000-year event exists in the mythologies around the world and is known as the Great Flood. The last 12,000-year event is known as the Younger Dryas. There is a certain amount of luck in surviving these events. If it happens to be noon where you are when the sun goes off, you have less than eight minutes to get underground. If you watch the video, you can see the waves of disaster we can expect. The irony is that areas like the Sahara, inhospitable now, might become more temperate and lush. Even the Antarctic might lose its ice.
