Hi everyone,
It's a great pleasure to join the lesson #2 of the graphic design class. The class was taken by @lhorgic and he has given some assignments which I will attempt in this post.

Question 1

Define illustration in your own words

Illustration

An illustration is an image, design or diagram that is used to tell a story or make a point stand out.
It is the visual explanation of a test a process or concept.
It can be inform of a painting, photograph drawing, or all other artwork.
Illustration is a very effective way of conveying Visual ideas, explain business purpose and advertise products. It can create a strong impact to viewers and appeal to them as well as teach important points.
Illustration helps to turn a difficult puzzle to an-easy-to-understand even for young children. Illustration is capable of explaining ideas even without a text attached to it.

b. Mention and explain other types of illustration not captured in this lesson.

Types of illustration

The two main classifications of illustrations are modern and traditional illustration.

Types of traditional illustration

  • Pencil illustration
    This type of conditional illustration involves the use of pencils to sketch ideas. The illustration applies various shades, effects and line weight. They also involve the use of colorful pencils or lead graphites.

  • Charcoal illustration
    This is the type of illustration that is used in stories and portraits. It blends very well and so can be used to create beautiful shadows or effects.

  • Water color illustration
    Water color illustration is an effective illustration used in storytelling. It is usually used for childrens books.

  • Acrylic illustration
    This type of involves the use of acrylic paints used on surfaces such as canvas or clothes in other to create an impactive illustration.

TYpes of Modern Illustration

  • Freehand Digital illustration
    This type of illustration is used for animations, recreation, storyboarding, etc. It involves the use of tablets and stylus to create a very detailed digital illustration

  • Technical illustration
    This type of illustration is used to depict an object accurately and to simplify it's meaning. This has been an effective tool for scientific elements to be explained easily to our understanding.

  • Vector illustration
    This is the type of illustration that is primarily used in print media. It can be combined with typography and texts. It involves the use of points, curves, lines, polygons, to produce images for visual communication

  • Lettering illustration
    Lettering illustration drawing letters and giving it different shapes and sizes.
    This type of illustration has proved to be very effective as it is usually used for logo creation, comic, movie titles , road signs, wedding invitations and many more.

Graphic design is more of commercial artillustration is related to fine art
Graphic design focuses on communicating ideas or purpose of a businessillustration is based on professional artistic skills
Graphic design focuses on such elements as texts, images, color, logo etc, to convey a message.Illustration illustration involves so much drawing. The illustrator works hard to draw everything he needs.

What is the importance of an illustration.

Importance of illustration

  • It helps to represent ideas and makes them more easy to grasp their meaning.
    Illustration helps to explain difficult problems and enables all including a yound child to understand.

  • Illustrations are important in the area of drawing attention. It helps to create brand recognition and also helps to build customer's loyalty to the brand.

  • Illustration helps in enhancing the development of a child.
    When a book contains illustrations, it creates visual appeal to the child and helps him understand the texts better and in time become more fluent in reading.

  • Illustration helps to guide a project builder on how the finished work will look. This makes it easier to work step by step as he will be guided by the illustration.

  • Illustration leaves a very strong message on the minds of people. Even if they forget the points given, but with illustration s, no message will be lost.
    Illustration can be likened to a glue gum. It sticks strong messages to our minds.

Conclusion

Illustration has been the world's most effective teaching tool. Even from ancient times it has been used to convey strong messages that are remembered from generations to generations.
The importance of illustration can never be over emphasized.

I'm glad to have learnt this lesson and all thanks to teacher @lhorgic for teaching us.
