It's never late to start meditating. Meditation is a very good activity for your well being.
My favourite type of meditation is with mantra sounds. You can either pronounce mantra yourself which in my opinion is more powerful. Or you can listen to meditation mantra sound pronounced by others. I love mantras because for me their both sound and image. I can imagine the visual symbol of sound as for me sound is a vibration that creates the image and makes my whole body vibrate accordingly.
You can say any mantra but there are some mantras that are not favourable for everyone. There are such mantras as Krishna which is good for anyone at any time of the day. As a beginner pronounce the mantra slowly. Gradually, the mind will become more peaceful and you will enter a relaxed state that you achieve during the mantra . It will be associated with this set of sounds and that will lead to enter the state of meditation.
