Is she/he an easygoing, cool and down to earth, or harsh/rude boss?

People say it is hard to strike a good balance between one's boss and employees. As a teenager, my first working experience was gotten from spending hours in my mom's provision shop immediately after high school.

Finding a job was kind of difficult for me, backed up by scary stories about how bosses maltreat their staff, with that knowledge, I didn't want to answer anyone, supposedly it was demeaning or so I thought. It took a lot of time and explaining from my parents before I debunked that thought.

I eventually started working at a law firm, my boss looks kind of cold with a loud voice, (Mrs. Florence Chinweodo) my first thought was that she will be rude but I was pleasantly surprised. I got to understand that was just a case of do not judge a book by its cover. It was just her nature, she was bold and confident and do not let anyone run over her. If you got close to her, you would find out that she is a firefighter and never backs down.

Did I enjoy learning from her?

Yes, I love her tenacity, prowess, and bravery. At the time I worked for her, she was the FIDA ( Federation of Women Lawyers) Chairman for Umuahia. She took it upon herself to fight every case involving an underaged person. Cases like rape, land disputes, divorce are at a high rate. Working with her, I learned diverse ways I could protect myself. I had to let go of my naive nature, especially in the land cases. One thing that stood out is to always register my properties irrespective of family members. If you live in Nigeria, precisely the eastern part of the country, it is popularly known that when the husband of the house passes away, there is a high chance that the issue of relatives taking away properties will arise, so it is always advised that a prepared will should be made and at least one property should be named in the wife's or children's name.

How did I cope? Did I finish the learning?

Though it was tough at first, I eventually loved to be there. The knowledge I got based on the legal matter was more than enough, it makes me scared thinking of the evils in the world and the length people go to cause mayhem. We once handled a case where a lady registered her properties in her husband's name, in the end, the husband used it against her and sold the properties right under her nose. The wife was livid but could not do anything since she brought it upon herself, she only had to contest the case in court.

Conclusion

I've had the pleasure of working with lots of people, most good and some bad. This has groomed me in more ways than I can count.

  • I have learned to work with a group of people irrespective of location, ethnicity,
  • My inter-personal relationship has grown, I usually do not communicate properly with people but that has changed.
  • I have learned to be confident in the skills I have knowing I can deliver anytime anywhere.
