In Which Cities is BCCI Thinking of Hosting IPL? Which Team Can Get Home Advantage?
• The Indian board has initially identified five cities.
Although IPL 2020 is being held in the United Arab Emirates, this year's Indian Premier League will be held on Indian soil. The BCCI has already informed that. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is working on a blueprint for how the tournament can be organized in the country without the corona's harassment.
It is certain that it is not possible to travel from one city to another for a few days to play IPL matches on a home-away basis for each franchise as before. It is also practically certain that not all cities have adequate bio-bubble making infrastructure for the IPL.
In this situation, the BCCI has identified several cities to host the Indian Premier League in the caravan model. Although the IPL will be played in three stadiums in the Emirates, the matches of the tournament will definitely be spread to a few more cities in India considering the spectators. In that case, after playing several matches in one city, the board plans to move all franchises to another city to play the next few matches.
Initially, the BCCI has identified five cities for hosting IPL matches. The list includes Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai, Ahmedabad and Kolkata. After the announcement of the results of the Assembly polls, some matches towards the end of the IPL may be held in Kolkata.
The BCCI is thinking of a few more cities. The board may not host the IPL in Maharashtra as the incidence of corona is on the rise. In that case, the defending champions Mumbai Indians will be deprived of home advantage. However, no final decision has been taken yet.
The Punjab government wants the BCCI to host some IPL matches in Mohali. The government has also demanded that Indian Premier League matches be held in Hyderabad. Some franchises have already expressed their displeasure with the selection of match centers. Now it is to be seen that in the meeting of the Governing Council, seals have been given on the organization of IPL in some cities. Delhi Capitals, RCB, CSK and KKR will be able to play the tournament at home if the Indian Premier League is held in the five cities currently proposed.
