Recently India won the test series 3–1 by defeating England by an innings and 25 runs in the fourth and final match of the four-match series. India also advanced to the World Test Championship final with this victory. Simultaneously, Virat Kohli set a new record in his name. India won their 36th Test match under his captaincy.
With this triumph, he has equaled Clive Llyod, the famed West Indian captain. Lloyd also captained the West Indies to 36 Test victories. He did, however, play 74 Tests compared to Kohli's 60. Lloyd led the West Indies to 74 Test victories. In that time, he won 36 games, lost 12 games, and drew 26 games. Team India has won 36 of of 60 Tests under Virat's captaincy, with 14 losses and ten draws.
Graeme Smith of South Africa holds the record for most matches played and wins as a captain. In 109 Tests, he led the South African squad. During that time, he won 53 Tests, lost 29 and drew 27. Ricky Ponting of Australia is the second most successful Test skipper in history.
Ricky Ponting captained Australia in 77 Tests, winning 48, losing 16 and drawing 13 matches. Following that is the name of another Australian skipper. Australia won 41 of 57 Tests under Steve Waugh's captaincy, losing only nine and drawing seven. Virat Kohli is ranked fourth on this list with 36 victories.
Virat Kohli became became the second skipper in Test history to win ten successive series at home.
Apart from this feat, Virat has another one as a captain. He is the first skipper in history to win ten straight Test series at home. He's now on the same level as Ponting. Following Virat Kohli and Ricky Ponting, England's Andrew Strauss captained the team to a 9-Test series victory at home.
Simultaneously, Virat has matched Mahendra Singh Dhoni's record for most Test matches played as an Indian captain. Virat Kohli is the most successful Test skipper in India's history. He won 36 of the 60 Test matches he played. Dhoni, on the other hand, is second on the list with 27 victories in 60 Tests. Sourav Ganguly has 21 Test victories, whereas Mohammad Azharuddin has 14 Test victories.
