Cricket is definitely not one of the disciplines on which the world-famous Nobel Prize is awarded. But if I say a cricketer has won the Nobel Prize, everyone must be surprised !

Ireland's Samuel Beckett is the first and only Nobel laureate in history to be a first-class cricketer. Beckett, who played two first-class matches for the University of Dublin, was a prolific writer in almost all fields of literature, including novels, short stories, essays, plays, and poetry. He has left a signature of unique talent in French literature. That is why in 1969 he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature.

Samuel Beckett had a strong inclination towards cricket since childhood. He used to bat and bowl, both with his left hand. Didn't play professional cricket very much; He played minor cricket most of the time.

Beckett played first-class cricket for the University of Dublin in 1925-26. He played two matches against English club Northamptonshire. Beckett scored only 35 runs in four innings in two matches! The highest innings is 16 runs. He bowled almost 20 overs with the ball and was wicket-less with 64 runs. His cricketing career did not last long, as he later became involved in teaching and literature. However, his name remains in the pages of cricket history.
