Remember Maxwell's first ODI century? He was just 26 years old young man. In the 2015 World Cup, he played a Tornado against the Sri Lankan bowlers. The first century of his career with 51 balls, also on a big stage like the World Cup. Who would have thought that he would have to wait almost five and a half years for the next century after that lightning innings in Sydney! However,😄 his batting style does not suggest that he is playing for a century or a milestone. He has been out five times in the nineties.

Maxwell had played a total of six ODIs since the 2019 World Cup. Three against England, the other three against India at home. He had batted in the number seven position in those six matches and it seemed he was pretty much comfortable in that position. There are two stormy half-centuries with one century. Quick cameo innings were also outstanding.

Let's go back to Manchester. The last ODI match of Old Trafford had taken the form of a series decider. Batting first, England collected 302 runs. 302 runs are not very much enough in today's cricket. But when the top order collapses like a house of cards, it is become impossible to touch.

There was a commotion in the Australian batting order. Chris Oakes and part-timer Joe Root collapsed in the Aussie camp. Five wickets were gone for 63 runs. Maxwell went to bat at number seven. The road to victory is far away then. His partner was Alex Carey who was on the crease was in off-form.

They were the last recognized batting pair. They were followed by four bowlers. So the only road was opened in front of Maxwell, to counter-attack and bring out the match. Maxwell did the same, taking two balls to respond to the English. He played a great flick shot of Jafra Archer bowl to the corner Instinctively for a six.

Captain Eoin Morgan sent Adil Rashid to bowl, removing the part-time bowler Root who bring break-through early in the innings. Maxwell was batting for 35 off 30 balls. Maxwell started with one of the trusted bowlers of captain Morgan, Adil Rashid. This leg spinner had been conceded three sixes by Maxwell. The bowling attack became a bit shaky. Australia got the result immediately. At one end, Maxwell played with his hands open, so at the other end, Carrie was able to play stress-free cricket. The pair won the match by playing 212 runs partnership.

Maxwell played an innings of 108 off 90 balls. There are seven sixes with four fours. The last six were in Tom Kurien's delivery. He completed the century in that six with a sweeper cover. Meanwhile, Maxwell was quite comfortable with Adil Rashid's leg-spin.

Maxwell got caught out by Rashid's bowl in the short third man while hitting a six. However, by then the reins of the match were out of England's hands. Carrey was out after Maxwell. However, the rest of the work with Pat Cummins is done by Mitchell Starc. Starc beat Adil Rashid in the last over with a six and a four package to win the match.
