I wasn’t able to play football for the last couple of weeks due to a severe knee injury that kept me on bed rest. Not only did it affect my ability to play, but it also impacted my mobility in my daily routine. As a dentist, physical health is of utmost importance. People often trivialize these things, but believe me, sitting bent over for 8-10 hours a day is incredibly challenging. That’s why you’ll often see dentists over the age of 35 dealing with severe back issues.

To prevent this, I’ve always made it a priority to stay active through sports and training. One of the main ways I do this is through my weekly football matches. But what do you do when you get injured playing football? I guess that’s just fate, and you have to deal with it. This recent knee injury took me out of the game and kept me from doing something I look forward to every week.

Still, I’m glad I could make a significant impact in the matches before the injury. Let’s look back at what happened in those last few games.

Team play is the best play. That’s what I believe in, and it’s what I try to uphold every time I step onto the turf. We began the game with solid momentum. With the league on break, I decided to join a couple of friendly matches over the weekend; I didn’t want to put my boots away, and these friendlies provided a great opportunity to refine my skills.

One of the most underrated yet highly effective dribbling moves a player can execute is the stepover. When done correctly, it leaves the defender with few options, often creating space and leaving them outmaneuvered. For a defender, knowing when to charge toward the attacker and when to hold back is a crucial skill. It’s all about timing and control; rushing in too soon can lead to costly mistakes, while holding back too long can allow the attacker to advance.

With an increase in my pace and agility, I’ve firmly established myself as a winger, settling into a role that allows me to capitalize on these strengths. I’m more comfortable on the left wing, where I have plenty of opportunities to cut in and take shots on goal. Playing in this position has transformed my approach to the game; I’m constantly looking to make those sharp runs that open up space or put me in a prime position to score. Over the weekend, I scored around five goals, which felt great, but scoring goals isn’t the ultimate objective

My improved speed has not only boosted my individual performance but has also enhanced my connection with my teammates. Team chemistry is vital; it’s one thing to be fast and agile, but knowing how to time your runs with the rest of the team is what truly makes a difference. Working together, we create opportunities, drawing defenders away and setting up each other for the best possible outcomes. The real challenge is to play as a cohesive unit, taking calculated risks and knowing when to step up. That’s what truly defines a successful game.

There are also some blunders that I make in every game but I think that's a part of the game and I try my best to analyze it after the session and improve it for the next game.
